Ancelotti Wants Manchester United Forward At Real Madrid In January

Real Madrid remain interested in signing a new striker at the earliest opportunity, despite Karim Benzema leading the goal-scoring charts amongst Europe’s top five leagues.

Carlo Ancelotti wants another option in attack, as there aren’t any other reliable goal-scoring alternatives to Benzema at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Kylian Mbappe has always been seen as the priority signing to lead Real’s attack for years to come, but Paris Saint-Germain’s reluctance to let him leave last summer meant Ancelotti could only strengthen his midfield with the inclusion of Eduardo Camavinga going into the new campaign.

The Ligue 1 giants are likely to maintain their stance in January, meaning Mbappe will only be able to move to the Spanish capital next summer on a free transfer.

As such, Real reportedly want a stop-gap signing in the winter window, and have apparently earmarked Edinson Cavani as the ideal candidate. According to El Nacional (via the Daily Mail), club president Florentino Perez will sanction a move for the Uruguayan striker.

Cavani was on Ancelotti’s transfer wishlist this summer as well, but the 34-year-old eventually ended up staying at Old Trafford, having extended his contract just few months earlier.

However, the return of Cristiano Ronaldo has seen an increased competition amongst United’s ranks and the departure of an attacker isn’t a far-fetched possibility. The same could also apply to Anthony Martial if not Cavani.
