Mob Psycho 100 Teases the True Origin of Mob’s Powers in Season 3 Trailer
A teaser trailer for the final arc of Mob Psycho 100 is hinting that fans will finally discover the secrets of Mob’s psychic powers.
The Mob Psycho 100 anime is fast approaching the time for its final arc to begin, and the latest teaser trailer for the rest of the season shows that there are some explosive reveals ahead, including the origins of Mob’s psychic abilities.
Season 3 of Mob Psycho 100 is off to an impressive start already, with its moving moments between Dimple and Mob, as well as impressing fans with the action scenes throughout the Divine Tree arc. Now in the midst of its Telepathy Club breather arc, the next arc to begin is known as the “???%” arc, the last in the manga yet to be animated (setting aside side stories). Fans of the series will surely recognize that ???% has appeared on screen several times when Mob loses control and his powers take over.
The trailer, posted to Warner Bros’ Japanese Youtube account, opens with Mob looking dark and possessed, as he does when his powers take over. Characters like Teruki Hanazawa, Mob’s brother Ritsu, and Reigen are all shown in a devastated Seasoning City, as dark clouds loom overhead. The trailer gives the implication that none of these characters who are close to him are able to get through to Mob, and Hanazawa even ends up getting thrown across the forest in one shot. In many shots in the trailer, Mob is also shown holding a bouquet of flowers–likely intended for his crush, Tsubomi Takane, who also shows up in one shot before a twisting cyclone.
Mob Psycho 100 Season 3 Ends with a Bang
Even as impressive as Mob Psycho 100 season 3 has been so far, the trailer promises there’s more incredible animation ahead, and several shots use unique artstyles, such as watercolor, to help convey the unnatural situation that has arisen. Up to now, Mob Psycho 100 has not really been concerned about where Mob’s powers come from; he simply has them because that’s the premise of the series. But as several other characters with powerful psychic abilities have been introduced, no one else has ever had their powers seize control of them the way that Mob’s do. Could it be that Mob has this problem because he still at least partially rejects his powers for setting him apart from others? “Mob’s progress towards explosion” definitely seems like a meter measuring how well one can supress their own feelings, after all. Mob’s only real goal throughout the series has been to make friends and do normal kid things, not mastering his powers or finding a good outlet for them.
Mob Psycho 100 is a once-in-a-generation hit for a reason, and part of that is undoubtedly Mob himself. With the final episodes of Mob Psycho 100 lying ahead, this new trailer promises that it’s going to be one heck of a ride.
